Who are you? What do you do in the industry?

My name is Joey. I work as an A&R for Alamo Records and also own Daily Chiefers a blog/website focused on Underground and emerging artists since 2010

What advice do you have for upcoming artists trying to break into the industry?

My advice for someone trying to get in the industry would be to find something you can attach yourself to. Whether that’s working or writing for a blog. Starting your own podcast, managing an artist or whatever. If you have good taste and wanna work in music you gotta apply it somewhere otherwise you’re just gonna be that person who has good music taste and nothing else to offer.

Also, become valuable. I see too many ppl get entitled early on in this industry and truly don’t provide any value to any company or artist. Find where they need help, and help. Also, work your ass off. Saturday’s, Sundays etc. nobody likes a lazy person.

What’s the biggest turning point in your career trajectory?

I’d say when Daily Chiefers started becoming one of the bigger blogs at the end of the blog era in 2014-2016. Led me to meeting Sickamore which landed me my job with Alamo in 2017.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned?

That only person that is going to care about your career is you. And that’s okay. People have the right to put themselves first to focus on their lives, and you should do the same. If you work at being a better YOU everyday then things will start to come together.
